The solar panel market in Europe is facing increasing pressure due to shifting global dynamics, particularly from China. Many in the industry have already noticed a decline in module availability, especially in specific categories. One of the primary reasons behind this trend is the upcoming regulatory change in China.
Starting in July 2025, renewable energy projects in China will receive less favourable remuneration, prompting a surge in domestic installations. This increased demand within China is already affecting global supply chains, potentially limiting the availability of solar panels in other regions, at least until June.
What does this mean for the market?
- Will the recently imposed manufacturing capacity limitations stabilize supply and demand?
- Will the anticipated drop in Chinese domestic demand in the second half of the year lead to price reductions?
These questions remain unanswered. However, one thing is certain—those planning installations in the first half of the year should act swiftly to secure their module supplies.
